Guidelines for Annual Progress Review of Trainees

An annual review of a fellow's progress in the research group is required. Annual reviews are helpful for both the fellow and the mentor to ensure that training goals will be achieved and expectations are clearly articulated. Each Institute is encouraged to develop a written review template that is consistently used for all fellows that meets the training goals of the research group within the Institute. The following list provides examples of common topics that should be discussed in annual progress reviews with the fellow.

1. Scientific Outcomes
2. Progress in the fellowship, appropriate to the training level of the fellow
3. Reliability
4. Collaboration and Teamwork within the research group
5. Research presentations, including attendance at local/national/international meetings
6. Goals and expectations for the upcoming year (if the fellowship award is renewed)
