Guidelines for Parental/Family Excused Absence for IRTAs, CRTAs, and Visiting Fellows
For trainees appointed under the IRTA, CRTA or Visiting Fellow mechanisms, 12 weeks of excused absence with stipend will be granted for the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child or other family health care. ICs should maintain evidence of the approved excused absence request in their files for at least 3 years after the end of the fellowship award.
Trainees appointed as Research Fellows or Clinical fellows (Title 42) should follow government employee guidance for their pay mechanism.
