Disability Health Scientific Interest Group
The Disability Health Scientific Interest Group (DH-SIG) is a trans-NIH assembly of scientists, clinicians, and trainees with a shared interest in promoting the health and well-being of people with disabilities.
Reflecting the plan's four goals and its crosscutting themes (i.e., whole person health, inclusion of people with disabilities in research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology) the DH-SIG:
- Promotes person-centered research on the biological, behavioral, sociocultural, and environmental factors that shape health across the lifespan, and on reducing health and health care disparities for people with disabilities.
- Strengthens the disability health research workforce through mentoring, networking, and career guidance, with particular attention to early-career scientists and trainees.
- Advances accessible research practices, including sharing methods, measures, and resources that promote the meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities as both investigators and participants.
- Encourages responsible collection, management, and sharing of disability data and the ethical use of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
