Rare Endocrine Tumors Scientific Interest Group
The NIH-Rare Endocrine Tumors Scientific Interest Group (NIH-RET SIG) stands as a pioneering initiative within the National Institutes of Health dedicated explicitly to the field of endocrine oncology. The group emphasizes understanding rare endocrine and neuroendocrine tumors, which pose significant clinical and research challenges due to their complexity and often under-researched malignancies.
This platform facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration among basic scientists and clinical researchers. By promoting cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary partnerships—both within the NIH (intramural) and with external academic and clinical institutions—the NIH-RET SIG aims to foster the sharing of knowledge, resources, and expertise.
The group's mission extends beyond collaboration to include promoting innovative research efforts that deepen our understanding of the biological, genetic, and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying rare endocrine tumors. These efforts are critical for advancing scientific knowledge as well as developing improved diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies. The SIG strives to cultivate a supportive community where researchers can exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and collaborate on solutions to longstanding questions in the field.
Meeting Schedule:
To support ongoing education and collaboration, the NIH-RET SIG hosts monthly meetings from September through June, scheduled on Tuesdays from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET.
Each meeting features a 45–50-minute presentation delivered by an expert in endocrine oncology or related fields. This presentation is followed by a 15-minute question and answer session.
All NIH-RET SIG meetings are conducted virtually to maximize accessibility and accommodate participants from various geographic locations. Registered attendees will receive a dedicated link in advance to join the sessions.
