Structural Biology Interest Group

The Structural Biology Interest Group is a clearinghouse for discussions and interactions between scientists interested in all aspects of molecular structure, from experimental determination by x-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, and NMR, to theoretical and computational biology and biophysics, and to the biological application of structural data.

Join us on October 28, 2026, for the NIH Structural Biology Symposium: Life and Medicine at Atomic Resolution.

The Structural Biology Symposium has a little bit for everyone: Immunology, Neurobiology, Proteomics, and more. Join us in Porter (Building 35) for a full day of discussions, including morning talks and afternoon panels.

The six morning talks, chaired by Anirban Banerjee (NICHD) and Robin Stanley (NIEHS), are: Joseph Marcotrigiano (NIAID) & Alan Remaley (NHLBI), "High-resolution structures of low density lipoprotein alone and bound to LDL receptor"; Yun-Xing Wang (NCI), "A long journey to solve the mystery of how HIV-1 hitchhikes the host machinery to export viral genome at near atomic resolution"; Robert Tycko (NIDDK), Molecular structures of amyloid-beta fibrils: what they are and does it matter?"; Geoffrey Mueller (NIEHS), "Molecular analyses of peanut allergens leads to improved patient diagnostics"; Lucy Forrest (NINDS), "Mapping complex ion-protein interactions with molecular simulations"; and Naoko Mizuno (NHLBI), "In situ integrative structural biology".

The four afternoon panels are: Methodology in Structural Biology Chair: Yun-Xing Wang (NCI); Training in Structural Biology Chair: Jenny Hinshaw (NIDDK); Governance of Structural Biology Chair: Michael Gottesman (NCI); and Integration of Structural Biology into the Fabric of NIH Chair: Nadine Samara (NIDCR).
