Eva Nogales, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Structural Biology and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. Her laboratory investigates large macromolecular assemblies essential to eukaryotic life, including the molecular machinery that regulates gene expression at the transcriptional and epigenetic levels and the dynamics of the microtubule cytoskeleton. Using state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), image analysis, and complementary biochemical and biophysical approaches, her team directly visualizes molecular architecture, functional states, and regulatory interactions. Guided by the motto “Visualizing Macromolecular Function,” Dr. Nogales’s lab has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of cryo-EM to reveal structures once considered unattainable.
